Visa Information

 

Participants, who come from the 28 EU member states do not need a visa in order to enter the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. Holders of valid Schengen visas also have the right to enter and reside in the country for a period of up to 90 days and are subjected to a visa-free regime.

 

Holders of valid ordinary passports from the following countries do not require a short-stay visa to enter Bulgaria for a period of up to 90 days:

 

Albania*,  Andorra , Antigua and Barbuda , Argentina, Australia , Bahamas , Barbados , Bosnia and Herzegovina*, Brazil , Brunei , Canada , Chile , China , Columbia , Costa Rica, Dominica , El Salvador , Grenada , Guatemala , Honduras , Iceland , Israel , Japan , Liechtenstein , Macedonia*, Malaysia , Mauritius , Mexico , Moldova*, Monaco , Montenegro*, New Zealand , Nicaragua , Norway , Palau , Panama , Paraguay , Puerto Rico , Republic of Korea , Saint Kitts and Nevis , Saint Lucia ,  Saint Vincent and Grenadines , Samoa , San Marino , Serbia*, Seychelles , Singapore , Switzerland , Taiwan , Timor-Leste , Tonga , Trinidad and Tobago , United Arab Emirates , Uruguay , USA , Vanuatu , Vatican City State , Venezuela.

 

*Only holders of biometric passports are exempt from short-stay visa requirements. Holders of non-biometric passports still require a visa, in which the visa facilitation agreements (VFA) apply.

 

All holders of passports from countries, not mentioned in the list above, need a short-stay type “C” visa to enter Bulgaria. A charge of €60 is collected generally upon application regardless of the visa type and of where the application is submitted.

 

A participant from another member state of the European Union can enter Bulgaria with a national identity card. Otherwise, a foreigner has to possess a regular foreign travel document (a passport), which is valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure from the territory of Bulgaria, contains at least 2 blank pages for visa purposes, and has been issued within the last 10 years. In case of connecting flights, check whether transit visa is required for your intermediate stop.
